THE MAGIC OF: THE RIGHT DETAILS

In 2024, I noticed a trend of brides being over the detail photographs. They just didn’t care, didn’t look back at those photos in the same way as others, didn’t want to take the time to collect the details, or didn’t want to pay the extra hour of photography coverage to include time for details in the day. I feel sad for these brides! In my opinion, they missed something special.

Details are important because they set the tone for your day. Becky Baker, one of the best wedding planners in the South, says that save-the-dates are the first interactions your wedding guests have as you welcome them to your wedding. She is so right, and in the same way, those are most likely the first things to be photographed on your wedding day. You have been through a journey with wedding planning! Most likely, it was several months or maybe even years. You’ve carefully chosen your invitations, the color tone of your silk ribbon, your florals, your shoes. Your wedding band! I’ve heard a hundred ceremonies talk about the importance and symbolism of the wedding bands. Those, at the very minimum, deserve to be included in your gallery of heirloom photographs that your grandchildren will ask to see a thousand times.

Gathering your wedding details is an opportunity to have the building blocks of who you are represented on your wedding day. Including a note or piece of jewelry from a grandmother who has passed, a souvenir from the city where you met your beloved, a memento you’ve carried since childhood as you’ve dreamed of your one day romance. These are the type of details that can take those flat lay photographs to the next level

Maybe sourcing these details feels overwhelming, especially in those chaotic days leading up to your wedding. Luckily for my brides, detail sourcing is one of my FAVORITE things and really brings a special magic to my detail photos. I have spent countless hours sourcing antiques and handmade items from all over the world to flourish with your details. And the magic always finds a way in. There have been so many times I’ve pulled something out of my details bag to hear my bride say “oh my god! My grandmother used to keep her wedding bands in a tray just like that!” or “that texture is EXACTLY like this from my hometown.”

The magic always finds a way in.
